Today I want to present you a very easy crochet pattern made on a base of a Magic Ring. It’s a crochet clove and you can find the tutorial how to make it on the YouTube channel of Príncipe del Crochet under the link. You can make the clove in any colour – there are different shades of green but also pink cloves presented in the video. You can use it as a beautiful detail on a cap, a hat, a bag, a coin purse – its use only depends on your creativity!

Small cloves are made using smaller crochet – of 2,25 mm, and the clove that is being worked on during the video is made using a bigger one– of 3 mm. You can see the difference in the tightness of the stitches (they are looser using the bigger crochet and tighter using the smaller one).

A first leaf

R1: Let’s start with a MR using the crochet of 3 mm and work 10 chs. Make 1 trc in the 5th ch from the hook. Work 1 extended dc in the next ch (6th chain out of 10) but put the crochet just through one loop, not through two loops as normally you would do making a double crochet. Then *make a yo and put the crochet through both loops* rep. 2 times. Work 1 normal dc in the next ch (7th ch out of 10). Work 1 hdc in the next ch (8th out of 10). Work 1 sc in the next ch (9th out of 10). Complete the leaf with a sl st in the last ch (1st one from the MR).

A second leaf

Make a sl st in the center of the MR and work 10 chs. Make 1 trc in the 5th ch from the hook. Work 1 dc in the next ch the same way as in the 1st leaf – put the crochet just through one loop, not through two as normally. After that *make a yo and put the crochet through both loops* rep. 2 times. Work 1 ordinary dc in the next ch. Work 1 hdc in the next ch and make 1 sc in the following ch. Complete the leaf with a sl st in the last ch.

Continue the same way to make 2 more leafs. In the end make a sl st in the middle of the MR.

A mirror pattern

R2: Let’s move to the 1st leaf made in the R1. Work 1 sl st in the sl st of that leaf and work second part of the leaf as a mirror pattern as following: make 1 sc in the next ch (this time we are going from down to up), work 1 hdc in the next ch, make 1 ordinary dc in the next ch, work 1 extended dc in the next ch, make 1 trc in the next ch. Now make 3 chs and stitch it in the stitch from the 1st part of the leaf (that stitch that is forming a whole, more open than other stitches) with a sl st. You will see that both parts of the leaf are separated by the line of wholes – work 1 sl st in each of them (skipping the 1st one) – going from up to down. Make a sl st in the center of a MR.

Do the same for each leaf starting crocheting always from a sl st made in R1.

A stem

R3: Work 10 chs to crochet a stem of our clove. Make 1 sl st in each chain (starting from the 2nd ch from the hook) to make the stem thicker – there will be 9 sl st in total. Cut the yarn and sew it in the back of your work. The stem can be of 10 or 5 chs – depending of the length that you wish to have.

I hope that you enjoyed the tutorial – see you soon!
