Filet technique may seem old-school, but it has a great comeback these days! It’s no longer the technique of grandmas and their sheer curtains with pixel-like shapes of ducklings – modern designers prove it.
It’s based on alternating “filled” and “empty” little squares to create lacy shapes and patterns. Technique is still just a technique, and that means that you can employ it in a million different ways, in a million different projects. Modern filet is geometrical, minimal and edgy. It does not follow picturesque motifs or naive animal silhouettes – it uses simple forms to create eye-catching patterns. Take a look at examples below and search for links to free patterns under the pictures.
